NaNoWriMo check-in 1

The first five days have passed, and I am behind already! :o But only slightly! I'm not worried.

I'm really glad that I decided to aim for 30K instead of 50K because I truly don't have much energy. Usually, at this stage of NaNo, I'm excited and eager. I sit down to write first thing in the morning to knock out a bunch of words and then knock out the rest at night.

But what's been happening is that I get NO writing done in the morning and do my best to meet my word goals in the evening, staying up late. :/ The last few months at work have been busier than usual, so I think it's partly due to that. Hopefully, I will gather more energy as the month goes on. I scheduled a bunch of PTO to help revitalize me--and ideally, get a lot of writing done on those days off too.

Anyway, this is the current status of everything:

trans!Ateez: 982 words this month
Yuletide: 496 words this month
Ateez Bingo: 1555 words this month
johnmark fest: 868 words this month
minkey OFD: 905 words this month
TOTAL: 4806 words this month

None of the fics are giving me too much trouble, although the Yuletide one has definitely been the slowest so far. I expected that though since it's the newest fandom for me. I fully expect to hit a wall soon on the johnmark one and the minkey one since I'm running out of pre-planned scenes. I'll probably go for a drive tomorrow and see if I can have some creative breakthroughs on where to take those fics before I come up against that wall.

In other news, I've been watching Seventeen in the SOOP and having a very relaxing time with it. I wanna go with some friends to a cabin in the woods and write...

I think new fandoms are always the slowest to start, because for me it takes a while to settle into the voices and who the characters are.

Good progress though! Especially if you're lacking the drive.

I wanna go with some friends to a cabin in the woods and write..

My life goal is to get to a point where I can do this whenever and however often I want!

Yes, there is definitely so much, "Does this narration actually SOUND like this person though? Would THEY do that? Will fans agree with this characterization???" right now, and it's frankly annoying. People who think writing fic is easy since the characters come ready made do not understand the struggles of trying to fit other people's notions of what the characters are like.

That's a good life goal! I'd like to try it with friends and by myself at least once each, to see if I actually like it or if I am just romanticizing the notion (I'm not very outdoorsy.)

Ah, I love the countryside, so cottages and walking and writing suits me to a tee. But you could just do the cottage and writing and skip the outdoors bit. A country cottage with a roaring fire in the dead of winter is a glorious place to be

Thanks! I used to be an "only one thing at a time" writer, but I've found that my attention span for writing has gotten shorter lately, so I hit a wall quickly with basically any project. Switching to something else lets me keep being productive. I think the overall quality of my writing is better when I can get really immersed in one project, but I just haven't had the energy/focus for it lately. When I'm revising, I do try to stick to just one project so that I can keep the proper tone and characterizations in mind better. But for drafting...this is the best way for me to get things done, even if the quality of the drafts is poorer.

I've really been enjoying the soop content, it's exactly what my brain needs right now in between work and writing. Just folks chilling, having a nice time, sentimental vibes. I might even watch the BTS soop series when I finish, even though I don't usually watch their content.

that's such an interesting way of approaching writing! I have a friend who also needs to switch between multiple wips and it works great for her too. maybe I should experiment with it and see how it feels~ esp since I'm feeling so stuck on my longfic at the moment.

ITS is so great! I haven't watch the bts one but another friend has and she made the same comment that it's really soothing and comforting :)

Can't hurt to experiment a bit, especially if you've been feeling stuck anyway! Even if it doesn't work for you, it might give you a new appreciation for your preferred method.

That sounds like really good progress to me!! I haven't even had one thought about my Yuletide story yet... and I have only written on 4 of the days of November so far. But, I hope to write more this week!

There's still plenty of time for Yuletide, so no worries. 4 days is good progress too, 4 times better than 0 days, in fact! I hope you get the time, energy, and inspiration for a lot of writing this week <3

I decided to join NaNoWriMo this year too, albeit belatedly. Since I'm going to be busy the end of this month and starting a new job I decided to only aim for 10k, which just feels like a more sustainable goal than the actual challenge sets.

I hope you're able to get a bunch of writing done on your days off! The Minkey fic looks especially interesting. I love Groundhog Day AUs, they're one of my favorites.

I'm heading into a long weekend thanks to PTO, so I'm excited to write! I just need to follow through instead of wasting time. Minkey has been my favorite thing to write this last year, so I'm having a good time with that one. I'm glad I'm not the only person here who loves Groundhog Day AUs.

That's one of my biggest struggles with writing - actually following through when I say I will! I often find that I think much more about writing than I actually do it LOL. Time to set myself on a schedule so I actually Do the Thing.

Anything time travel intimidates me to write for some reason, but is something I love reading.

Haha, thanks! They've been kinda tricky so far, so it's been interesting. Both of my Ateez fics are kinda niche, but hopefully folks will enjoy them regardless. Chapter 1 of the trans!Ateez fic is currently up, and I'm hoping to get chapter 2 up by the end of this month at bare minimum...ideally chapter 2 and 3.
